As regular readers will know, one of the things that interests me is whether there are practices or activities that we might do to loosen the cultural obsession with looks and appearance. I’ve listed some of the ones that I came up with in the book here, and hope to keep adding to them.
One experiment that I hadn’t thought of is documented in a fascinating blog The Beheld: Beauty and What it Means. The author of the blog spent a month without looking at their reflection, to try to loosen the grip of self-consciousness. You can read descriptions of what that was like, and much more, on the blog.
